A HAPPY STORY, FOR A CHANGE!

December 14, 2009 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein

Meet Buddy, a 4 yr. old beagle who spent nearly three months on an uninhabited New Jersey island. Although Buddy lost nearly 20 pounds, he survived by himself. But how?
Well it started when his family, Edith and Charles Kelley, attempted to switch Buddy’s leash “while frolicking on Gull Island in the Mansasquan Inlet” on August 31st of this year. The Kelley’s son, Patrick is the real owner of Buddy.
Buddy ran away and was nowhere to be found. Posters were put up but no luck. No luck that is until a man called “Muskrat” Jack Neary came to the rescue. Jack trapped Buddy the other week after he was spotted along railraod tracks.
But how did Buddy survive by himself? No one knows for sure but the Coast Guard believes he may have survived on seagulls. However he did, I am glad there is a happy ending to this story.
