BACKYARD WILDLIFE HABITATS ~ TUNE INTO BCTV TONITE @9PM

July 15, 2008 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein

One of my ponds in my backyard
Join me tonite on BCTV for my Animal Welfare Issues Show (Ch.13 on Comcast on Ch19 on Service Electric) at 9PM. The topic will be creating a wildlife habitat in your own backyard. Be sure to watch to win two plants if you can answer a trivia question during the program!
A backyard wildlife habitat is changing your yard into an ecosystem that provides essential resources for different kinds of wildlife, such as birds, butterflies, small mammals, fish and other creatures. A wildlife habitat can be as large as you are able to go or as small as you want it to be.
It should provide, food, water, shade , perches, winter refuge and hiding places for all kinds of wildlife.
My guest will be my husband, Ed. He is a professional landscaper and a wildlife videographer. He created a “wildlife animal sanctuary” in our own backyard. It is amazing how he transformed an empty lawn into a beautifully lanscaped habitat. He made three ponds in which we have different types of fish and frogs. He created hummingbird areas, bluebird boxes and trees where birds can nest. We get creatures of all kinds at our home. We have rabbits that are so calm, you can walk right up to them as they lie there sunning.
We have had numerous bluebird babies occupy our birdhouses for the last year.

We also have had wildlife that shouldn’t be in our yard – deer and wild turkeys. We live in the suburbs and it caught me by surprise one morning when I saw at least 15-20 turkeys walking and picking through our lawn. My husband saw a doe last week just yards away from our yard as he walking our dog, Shadow, early in the morning.
I will also be highlighting a couple of cats from 1 by 1 cat rescue. I will have more on 1 by 1 in an upcoming entry.
The show is live and the number to call is 610-378-0426 with your questions or comments.
