Shark Finning

Join me tomorrow evening at 6:30 PM (EST) when I will be joined by Kate Dylewsky, Program Associate for Born Free USA, on my tv show.

Kate and I will be speaking about her recent efforts to get S. 2057 passed in the New Jersey Senate Economic Growth Committee.  This bill bans the shark fin trade in that state. Shark finning is a cruel industry in which 73 million sharks are killed each year for their fins to make shark fin soup, an Asian delicacy.

We also be discussing elephant poaching for the ivory trade business.  Poaching has reached crisis levels in Africa with more than 103,000 elephants killed for their ivory since 2012. If the killing continues, elephants could be extinct within ten years.

Lastly, we will talk of Nanuq, the 31/32 yr. old Beluga whale who died last Thursday at a SeaWorld in Orlando, Florida.  His death is being investigated to see if any violations of the Animal Welfare Act contributed to his demise.

The show starts at 6:30 PM on Ch. 15 (Comcast) Ch. 19(Service Electric). The program airs in Pennsylvania.  Can’t see the show in  your area?  Streamline the show live over the internet by clicking on this link.

Shark finning is extremely cruel to the sharks. Cutting off their fins and letting them drop to the ocean floor to die a slow death is painful to even know. I hope those who do this to them have a similar fate.
