DERBE ECKHART FOUND GUILTY ON TWO COUNTS OF ANIMAL CRUELTY

March 30, 2010 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein

GUILTY! – Before you get too excited about this partial verdict for former owner and operator of Almost Heaven (Hell) Kennel, Eckhart’s attorney, Jay Conrad, said “he is hopeful Eckhart will serve little or no jail time” for the four counts he was found guilty. Two of those counts were for animal cruelty only. The other two were for license violations.
Eckhart was also found guilty of 17 minor violations. He was found not guilty on four other counts and no decision could be made for five other counts. So what happens to those charges?
From my understanding, Eckhart can receive up to ONE year for each conviction. But his attorney already made the comment that Eckhart will probably will serve little or no jail time.
Do you feel justice was served?
After decades of operating this hell-hole and abusing animals and having them live in horrific conditions, this is what it came down to. This case had so much media hype and people outraged over what this man did to these innocent animals. So after years upon years of being cruel to these animals, he is found guilty on two charges of animal cruelty. That makes no sense to me. I guess I don’t quite understand justice. When there’s proof and prior convictions of animal cruelty and so many of us who are aware of this man and the “puppymill” he ran, I can’t understand this outcome.
Eckhart will be sentenced on May 18th. Let’s hope , at least, for the maximum penalty. He also is not allowed to own or operate a kennel in PA only.
But I have heard through the grapevine, which is heresay, that he has already shipped animals to New Jersey. Truth or fiction- time will tell.
