09-10-10 — A C T I O N A L E R TAdvocates to Converge on Capitol Steps on Monday, September 13IF YOU CARE, YOU’LL BE THERE!With an important election just weeks away, Pennsylvania companion animal advocates and their four legged friends are busy making last minute arrangements in preparation of their trip to Harrisburg on Monday morning for an advocacy rally they hope will send legislative incumbents and candidates a strong message:We Love Animals and We Vote!Strong numbers are important at this rally! Feline fans and dog devotees are asked to strongly consider making arrangements to attend and help represent the large voting block that animal advocates represent across the state.Beginning at 11AM and ending at 1PM, an exciting line up of speakers has been assembled and includes: Tamira Thayne of Dogs Deserve Better, Karel Minor of the Humane Society of Berks County, Dr. Thomas Gemmill from United Against Puppy Mills, Dr. Jennifer Fry from The Fairchild Foundation, Tina Sowicz of North Penn Puppy Mill Watch, Steven Hoover from the Western PA League of Humane Voters, Bill Smith of Main Line Animal Rescue and Jenny Stephens of North Penn Puppy Mill Watch.The rally will address:SB 1435 – limit the number of hours in a day a dog may be tethered SB 1417 – moving the Bureau of Dog Law out of the Dept of Agriculture SB 672 – abolish gas chamber euthanasia in PA sheltersSB 673 – require shelters to hold felines for at least 48 hours, as dogs are, prior to euthanizingSB 50 – revision of the “Puppy Lemon Law”HB 614 – increase the length of time dogs must be held at shelters to 96 hours prior euthanizingProtection for Cats and TNR ProgramsAct 119: Regulations for flooring and access to exercise for dogs trapped in PA Puppy Mills
