DYING BULLDOG SAVES HER OWNER FROM HOUSE FIRE

May 26, 2009 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein

In the early morning hours of this past Saturday, 9 yr. old bulldog, Brittney, pictured above, saved the life of her owner (pictured with her), Scott Seymour. Smoke alarms didn’t sound off but Brittney barked and saved Scott’s life and her life; although it appears the house they once lived in is now a total loss. The cause of the fire appears to be faulty electrical wiring.
That story in and of itself is amazing. What makes Brittney’s heroic efforts even more touching is the sad reality of Brittney’s imminent death.
Two weeks ago, Brittney was diagnosed with cancerous tumors in her abdomen. Her veterinarian said she may not survive surgery and Scott decided against chemotherapy. She has been given weeks to live. Scott could have also had her euthanized. He opted instead to give her medicine to ease her pain “until death comes naturally”.
Some people feel Brittney should be given a chance at life and administered chemotherapy. I disagree with those people. If Brittney has been given only weeks to live, why make the 9 yr. old bulldog suffer in her last weeks here on earth with her only companion she has known since she was six weeks old.
Chemo is hard on the body and I say let Brittney live life to the fullest. Look at amazing feat she accomplished this past Saturday morning. She saved her owner’s life.
In the end, it is a sad irony, Brittney saved her owner’s life but he is unable to save hers.
If this was your dog, would you have your veterinarian administer chemotherapy?
