FIRST SLED-DOG RACE OF SEASON CANCELLED

The Iditarod- “the world’s premier dog-sled race” – has its day in March of every year.
Leading up to that event are other dog races in preparation for the ultimate race. One such race is The Sheep Mountain 150 which is the first mid-distance race of the season.
The Sheep Mountain 150 will not be held due to lack of snow. According to race director, Zack Steer, “there is enough snow to support 45 teams.
Personally, I’m glad. I am nowhere near an expert on dog-races, particularly the Iditarod, but I just can’t see why people have a team of dogs pull people on sleds through the wet snow and cold weather.
Since 1997, over 100 dogs have died during the course of the Iditarod. Many become sick and injured
