‘HUNTER’ GETS CITED FOR HITTING SHARK PRESIDENT

September 7, 2011 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein

Frederick K. Campbell, the man behind the wheel of the van who struck SHARK president, Steve Hindi, this past Saturday at a “pigeon shoot” at Wing Pointe has been given four citations. You can view what happened here. (warning- there is profane language used when Steve is hit by the van.)
The most serious offense, according to a Reading Eagle article, was Campbell driving at an unsafe speed when he struck Steve Hindi at the entrance of Wing Pointe Gun Club. He was also cited for not stopping to “render aid” to his victim. Why would he have done that, I have to ask?
According to the article, it was unclear if Hindi sought medical treatment. Hindi made it clear in a press release that he went to the Reading Hospital for treatment.
I’m so frustrated that a hit and run incident was diminished to four measly traffic citations. Campbell purposely hit Hindi as seen on the video and drove away from the scene from the crime. This “offense” is being unfairly treated.
And I must ask “Why”? According to the article, it states that this “was the latest in a series of incidents involving protesters outside Winge Pointe”. It’s disappointing not to explain what truly happens at these pigeon shoots to give the average reader a better understanding of this barbaric “sport”.
I was there this past Saturday. So was SHARK.Actually they were there last Friday through Sunday. No one was disorderly. No one was yelling at drivers. There was one sign alongside one woman’s van that said, “WHY?”. There were three other ladies present when I parked my vehicle on Saturday afternoon along Rt. 662. That’s it. All acted in an orderly fashion while I was present.
If one views the video, one can clearly see that Hindi was hit on purpose with no regard to see what harm had been caused to him. This is, without a doubt, a hit and run incident which is a criminal offense but it is being treated with a slap on the wrist.
I find the lack of charging Campbell with a more serious offense reprehensible.
I go back to my original question. Why? Why does PA still hold these pigeon shoots? Actual hunters don’t like pigeon shoots. So, why are we the last state to legally allow them? And why was this crime treated as a traffic violation?
Feel free to share your thoughts!
