I died today

September 2, 2013 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein 16 Comments

Dear Mom And Dad,

I Died Today. You Got Tired Of Me And Took Me To The Shelter.

They Were Overcrowded And I Drew An Unlucky Number.

I Am In A Black Plastic Bag In A Landfill Now. Some Other Puppy Will Get The Barely Used Leash You Left.

My Collar Was Dirty And Too Small, But The Lady Took It Off Before She Sent Me To The Rainbow Bridge.

Would I Still Be At Home If I Hadn’t Chewed Your Shoe? I Didn’t Know What It Was, But It Was Leather, And It Was On The Floor. I Was Just Playing. You Forgot To Get Puppy Toys.

Would I Still Be At Home If I Had Been Housebroken? Rubbing My Nose In What I Did Only Made Me Ashamed That I Had To Go At All.

There Are Books AndObedience Teachers That Would Have Taught You How To Teach Me To Go To The Door.

Would I Still Be At Home If I Hadn’t Brought Fleas Into The House? Without Anti Flea Medicine, I Couldn’t Get Them Off Of Me After You Left Me In The Yard For Days.

Would I Still Be At Home If I Hadn’t Barked? I Was Only Saying “I’m Scared I’m Lonely, I’m Here! I’m Here!” I Want To Be Your Best Friend.

Would I Still Be At Home If I Made You Happy? Hitting Me Didn’t Make Me Learn How.Would I Still Be At Home If You Had Taken The Time To Care For Me And To Teach Manners To Me?

You Didn’t Pay Attention to Me After The first Week Or So, but I Spent all My time WAITING  for YOU To LOVE ME!

I Died Today.

Love,

Your Puppy

I couldn’t read the whole thing. It tore me apart. Why are people so irresponsible? An innocent animal dies because the owner is a moron.

Really afraid to love, too afraid of hurt feelings, so piercing pain. had long thought that love for me is this life no matter, because it is so far away. once thought that there is no love, some just writers poet woven out fool the world of fairy tales. when the numbness, without a trace of love and pain, you like the prince appeared, to save me into endless pain suffering soul. ordinary as me, what regrets this life, God gave you to me,, real love….for my beloved dog

WHY aren’t people more responsible for their pets? They are not disposable!! Can you imagine how much their hearts and spirits break when you leave behind at a shelter? Let the owners know what that feels like.

Poignant. I wish more people understood that taking your pet to a shelter means the majority of the time pets are euthanized. The majority don’t find other homes except for no-kill shelters.

The public needs to be aware that when you relinquish your pet, the workers can go straight back and kill YOUR pet. You signed over the pet and now it belongs to them. If they don’t want it, they can destroy it. Be responsible and don’t get a pet unless you can make a lifetime commitment to him or her!!

I wish I could save all of the animals in shelters. I don’t understand why anyone wants a pet if they can give it up so easily. These animals didn’t ask to be born and to be treated so harshly. All they want to do is to love you. How could anyone give up or abandon their pet? It boggles the mind. Thinking about all of the animals that died today is more than I can bear.
