MAN KILLS HIS DOGS THAT ATTACKED HIS FIANCEE

October 5, 2008 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein

Julythza Rivera, attacked by dogs

Two German-Shephard and American Bulldog mix dogs, Chopper and Bishop, attacked Julythza (pictured above) this past Friday night. The attack was unprovoked. You can read the story from the Reading Eagle here.
Julythza’s fiancee , Brett Correll saved her after he found her in the tub with both dogs on top of her attacking her. She suffered bite wounds and scratches.
It started with Julythza hearing the dogs barking in their North Front Street backyard. She went to investigate only to be attacked by them. She managed to crawl inside into the bathroom where she tried to escape. But they followed her and continued with the attack.
While this was happening, Brett had been in the living room tending to their one-year old son when he heard his fiancee’s screams.
After successfully pulling off both dogs, according to the article, Brett got his handgun and shot both dogs. One of the dogs died from the gunshot while the other one had to be tranquilized and euthanized by a humane officer from the Animal Rescue League after Brett and Julythza came back home that night from the hospital.
Brett said his dogs were meant to be aggressive since they live in a drug-infested neighborhood. Brett apparently cried as his dogs were taken away. He is quoted as saying he still loved them even though they attacked his fiancee. “They were like my kids and they are still my babies.”
QUESTION: Do you agree with Brett’s decision to kill his own dogs?
A factor that can’t be denied in this unfortunate attack is the neighborhood where they live. It is drug-infested.
Do you think the drug dealers, users, or the city has played a role and is partially to blame for this attack. If it hadn’t been for the type of neighborhood they live in , it seems Brett would not have needed guard dogs to be aggressive towards others.
