Mayfair man found guilty in abstencia of animal cruelty

October 30, 2014 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein Leave a Comment

Prince is still waiting to be adopted at the PSPCA

Brian Halbherr, 27, was found guilty in abstencia of two counts of animal cruelty this past Monday, October 27th, after the PSPCA took possession of his two emaciated dogs in September.

Trial was set to take place Monday morning in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, but Halbherr failed to appear, according to the PSPCA.  The judge found him guilty of the animal cruelty charges and was fined $500 on each of two counts for failing to provide sustenance to his two dogs, Prince (pictured) and Juice.

An investigation led by the PSCPA’s Humane Law Enforcement occurred last month after receiving a tip which led to Halbherr’s property on the 3300 block of Friendship Road in the Mayfair section of the city.  The animal agency removed the dogs which Halbherr surrendered to the PSPCA.

Prince and Juice were taken to their headquarters where each received the proper care.  Prince (pictured) and Juice have put on weight at the shelter. Juice has since been adopted.

Prince is still looking for a permanent home. If you are interested in adopting Prince, please visit the headquarters at 350 E. Erie Avenue.

“The Pennsylvania SPCA has the largest humane law enforcement division in the state and has achieved a 90% success rate in prosecuting those who harm animals. This is the latest example of the vital work we do to hold animal abusers accountable. But our goal in each of our cases goes beyond the outcomes of litigation,” said CEO Jerry Buckley. “We work hard to treat the animals we rescue and find permanent, caring homes for them.”
