MONTGOMERY COUNTY K-9, ANDY, KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY

October 23, 2008 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein

A police officer and his K-9 partner were shot by friendly fire Wednesday morning. Plymouth Township Police Officer Louis Layfield and his K-9 dog, Andy were helping in the search for bank robbers when Andy attacked a police officer who had his gun drawn. Andy was trained to attack civilians with guns drawn. The officer’s gun accidently discharged killing Andy. Officer Layfield was shot by the same bullet. The officer’s bullet proof vest saved him from serious harm.
I don’t know if Andy was wearing a bullet-proof vest.
