According to the news, 4 emaciated monkeys, 20 cats, 2 horses and 6 dogs were taken from Almost Heaven (HELL) Kennels last night by the PSPCA. And yet this man is still allowed to hold onto 25 dogs because that does not constitute a kennel in the state of PA. What is wrong with this picture?
I and others can’t understand why this man is allowed to have any animals after all of the animal cruelty charges he has over the years, let alone the major raid performed last October at his property when over 800 animals were found in deplorable conditons and including Tuesday’s seizure of over 200 dogs. Yes, his kennel is closed but why is this man permitted to have any animals with his well-documented history?
I drove to Eckhart’s home yesterday. I had hopes of speaking with Eckhart myself. I had originally interviewed Elmer Zimmerman, the man who shot and killed 80 of his own puppymill dogs nearly one year ago in Maxatawny Township, and wanted to know why he did what he did. I thought I would do it again with Eckhart.
However, upon seeing his home, I saw two children in his front yard and decided against it. I felt they were innocent in all of this. One of the children was playing with a poodle and I saw another dog- a large, tan mixed breed dog. So this man still has dogs unless they were removed by the PSPCA last night.
Eckhart is now being charged with more animal cruelty. He should not be allowed to have any pets whatsoever. But as Linda commented on my last post, it appears Eckhart is now looking in other states to open up another kennel. No surprise for me. I expected it. And so the saga continues.
