OFFICER JAMES HOWE, READING POLICE K-9 UNIT TRAINER, RETIRES

October 22, 2010 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein

An article in yesterday’s Reading Eagle announced the retirement of Officer James D. Howe of the Reading K-9 Police Force. Jim actually retired August 31st.
Jim not only had overseen the K-9 unit, he was the trainer for the new K-9 unit. I was priveleged to be invited to this year’s graduation for the last three officers and their K-9 partners.
I also had the honor of having him on my tv show a couple of times.
What struck me about Jim is his straightfowardness, honesty and integrity. He may have a tough exterior but he has a heart of gold. I am truly saddened to hear that the Reading Police has lost a true man so dedicated to the K-9 Unit as Jim was.
As the article states, Jim “has been working with his girlfriend, Melanie L. Becker, on starting up a dog training business, Bojovnika K-9. The business focuses on pet and competition obedience, sport, personal protection as well as police and service dogs. Their website is http://www.bojovnikak9.com Bojovnika means “the warrior” in Slovak.”
Jim, you are one of those rare individuals who has truly made a difference. I wish you all the best with all of your endeavors.
