PETS IN PARKED CARS- ANIMAL CRUELTY FOR SOME BUT NOT FOR OTHERS…

July 26, 2011 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein

Even though we are getting a bit of a reprieve from the overbearing heat and humidity, it is still to dangerous to keep your pet in a parked vehicle. It only takes minutes for the car to heat up past 100 degrees and cause your pet to endure a heatstroke and possibly death. This is not to be taken lightly.
If you see an animal in a parked vehicle with no one coming back to it, PLEASE call the Humane Society’s hot dog line at 610-921-2438 Ex. 1. or call the Animal Rescue League at 610-373-8830. According to their website, they are having phone problems, so it may difficult to reach an animal control officer. You can also call your local police.
A person who does leave their pet in a parked car or who fails to provide water and cool shelter can be fined up to $750.00 and 90 days in jail in PA. It is considered animal cruelty and rightly so.
My question is- if private citizens can be fined and jailed for this type of animal cruelty, why can’t commercial breeders aka puppy mill operators be fined and jailed for the exact same thing since dogs in these facilities are forced to endure the heat and humidity without any relief?
