PIGEON SHOOT HELD AT WING POINTE HUNTING RESORT IN PERRY TOWNSHIP THIS PAST WEEKEND

January 4, 2011 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein

This video was taken in November 2010 at Winge Pointe Hunting Resort, Perry Township, where another shoot was held this past weekend. In the video you will see live pigeons that were dumped into the “dead pile”. Banned (belonging to someone) pigeons were also used. This is not legal.

Injured birds were being picked up by others from this past weekend’s shoot.

Pigeon shoots are cruel, barbaric and archaic in this day and age. Even hunters find pigeon shoots offensive. There is no hunting involved when pigeons are placed in a box to be released and shot. These so-called hunters can’t be that good to have injured birds survive this torture.

As I listened to WEEU Feedback this morning, one woman called in and said these birds are raised specifically for these shoots. Absolutely not true! The reasoning behind pigeon shoots is they’re considered pests and we need to be rid of them. Birds are captured in many instances by others who set traps in barns. Sometimes the people who race pigeons do give them for these shoots if a pigeon isn’t “racing quality”. Sometimes, banned (racing) pigeons get lost on their way to and from their destination. They end up in these barns and become trapped and used for the live pigeon shoots!

PA is one of the last states to allow pigeon shoots. Last year’s legislative session saw the demise of the bill that would end pigeon shoots in PA
