RATCHET ON HIS WAY TO THE STATES

October 20, 2008 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein

Ratchet, that adorable dog that was befriended by Sgt. Gwen Beberg in Iraq after being pulled from a burning pile of trash this past May, was loaded onto a charter flight last night. The flight has flown to Kuwait. Ratchet will be in Minnesota by the end of the week where Sgt. Beberg’s parents live. Beberg will be arriving home next month. This was the third attempt by Operation Baghad Pups to bring Ratchet to the states. An online petition had more than 65,000 signatures to help bring Ratchet to the states. Signatures came from around the world.
According to Sgt. Beberg’s mother Patricia, said Ratchet provided emotional support, was a confidante and a sanity saver for her daughter while serving in Iraq. Patricia said that Ratchet was a connection for her daughter to Iraq other than a war zone.
Operation Baghdad Pups has now successfully brought 56 dogs and cats to the states. A truly happy ending!
