Should Jennifer Beals have to take the heat for leaving her dog in vehicle for five minutes?

The star of the movie Flashdance (1983) was confronted by a concerned passerby as she exited a store after leaving her German Shephard in her Ford Escape as she shopped in Vancouver.

The actress left her large dog alone in the vehicle with the passenger window open a few inches.

The temperature was 77 degrees.  While that number may seem relatively comfortable for humans, that number can rise 20 degrees in just 10 minutes.  In 20 minutes, it can rise almost 30 degrees.  At 60 minutes, the temperatre can rise over 110 degrees according to the AVMA.

, Beal’s dog was in the parked car for five minutes as said in this report.

The concerned passerby reported Beals to the BC SPCA who haven’t filed any charges against the thespian. Marcie Moriarty of the BC SPCA told Global B.C. News Hour leaving the window down a few inches was probably not enough on a day when temperatures reached 77 degrees.

When approached by the private citizen, Beals said, “It’s fine, thank you.”

Do you think Beals is being fairly criticized for leaving her dog in her parked vehicle for five minutes?

She should know better. What if she was held up longer when she was shopping. Keep your dog at home where it’ll be safe.

I take my dog with me for car rides. I know my dog’s ok if I stop inside a store for a few minutes as long as I can keep an eye on him. /this one was a stretch. The dog was in no danger for being in the escape for five minutes.

This was an overreaction. The dog was in the car for only five minutes Give me a break. If the dog was in there for 15 to 20 minutes, i could see the concern. She was in and out within five minutes. The dog is fine.
