THE DOG AND CAT FUR INDUSTRY IN CHINA

August 11, 2008 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein

Tune into BCTV (Ch.13 -Comcast, Ch19 – Service Electric) to watch my program ~ A Closer Look at Animal Welfare Issues at 7PM ~ when my guests, Sarah Speed, Pennsylvania State Director of the Humane Society of the U.S. and Pierre Grzybowski of the Humane Society of the U.S. and I will be disussing the horrific cruelty of the dog and cat fur industry in China.
I haven’t watched nor will I watch any of the Olympics because of what they do to these animals, all in the name of fur. Why should I think they would care about animals when they don’t even care about their own people? The Chinese government has a 1 child policy in which families are to have one child. If they have more than one, they can be fined or they give up their daughters to orphanages. The reason they keep the sons is because they can do more work. In rural areas they will take portable ultrasound monitors to pregnant women to see the sex of their child. Even at eight months, they will abort that girl.
China is one of the largest exporters of dog and cat fur. Some animal are even skinned alive. There is footage but it is very graphic. They just don’t care if these animals are dead before they rip their fur off and dump them in a pile of other animals while still alive. What does that poor animal endure before dying?
I hope you will tune in to my program to learn more about this horrific animal cruelty in China and learn what we can do to help change the situation.
