UPDATE ON RATCHET – PUPPY ADOPTED BY SOLDIER IN IRAQ

October 16, 2008 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein

Ratchet has been cleared to leave Iraq to come home to the U.S. this Sunday, October 18th. Sgt. Gwen Beberg who adopted Ratchet after being rescued from a buring pile of trash is thrilled that Ratchet is going home. She wrote in an email to SPCA International that she planned to do a “victory dance” on Sunday. Beberg is expected to come home next month.
An online petition that others and I had posted has received more than 45,000 signatures to help get this dog home to the U.S. Thank you to everyone! It amazes me what we can accomplish together to help others.
Besides the petition, Ratchet had local congressmen and senators asking the military to review this case.
What I have also heard but haven’t confirmed at this point is Beberg is being demoted because of her actions trying to save Ratchet. Since I don’t have verification, I’ll reserve any comment on that. Let’s hope it isn’t true.
I think it’s great what all of us can accomplish when we work together. I say let’s put puppymills out of business- we can do it!!!
