Veterinarian Freezer Stolen – Contained Dogs’ Remains Awaiting Cremation

December 11, 2017 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein 9 Comments

A surveillance video taken at the Bradenton Veterinary Hospital, Florida, shows a man stealing a freezer containing the remains of two dogs awaiting cremation away from the veterinary hospital with a dark-colored pick up truck.    The video shows the truck entering the lot Monday, December 4th around 10:20 PM.    It only took four minutes for him to place the freezer on the back of the truck.

The freezer was kept outside at the veterinarian’s nearby home for the last three years according the hospital’s office manager, Kathy Richardson.    Apparently,  it is not uncommon to keep freezers outside of animal hospitals to store animals’ remains.    Many crematories pick up after hours.

One of the dogs was a 13 year old husky who had lived with his family since the dog was a puppy.    The family had scheduled a private cremation.    Many cremations are communal meaning their remains are cremated with other animals.

A search of the area’s garbage cans and dumpsters by the vet hospital resulted with no remains.     Although the staff has no idea what has happened to the remains, they are hopeful that it’s not too late to fulfill the wishes of the family.

Richardson asked for the return of the remains and to keep the freezer.   They don’t care about it.  Only the remains.    The families of the dogs are distraught.

The Bradenton police department is conducting an investigation.

I wish I had an answer for you but I don’t. Not sure if the person who stole it needed a freezer or wanted to sell it for money. Either way is wrong. Still, with two dead dogs in it, I thought they would’ve been returned upon the discovery of them. Very disturbing.

      Thanks!
