40 abandoned dogs removed from a house of horrors Lakewood home, New Jersey

More than 40 dogs were rescued from a dilapidated, garbage-filled house covered in wall-to-wall feces and urine Friday in Lakewood, New Jersey. They were removed through a window due to feces and other dirt piled up at the front door.

The dogs had eaten holes in the walls and were living inside them running from room to room.  Floors were saturated with feces and urine.

The dogs were so matted and dirty they had to be shaved down to the skin and bathed. Pounds of fecal matter were removed from some of the dogs.  Once bathed, the dogs were much happier.  They weren’t found to be vicious but scared.

Neighbors had been complaining for months about the manure odor emanating from this house. Apparently the local animal control department was aware of the house for at least months, if not more said Matt Stanton of the New Jersey State SPCA.

The man who bought the property was going to knock down the house to redevelop it.  The tenant (a woman) never informed him of the dogs while living there or when she moved away.

The woman who lived there signed over all of the dogs to rescues and/or shelters. Despite this fact, she will most likely be facing animal cruelty charges.

The rescues and shelters who taking care of the dogs hope to find new homes for all of them after fully recovered.  There were Golden Retrievers, Border Collies,  Huskies and mixed breeds including a Doberman mixed with a Poodle.

According to those involved in this rescue from Husky House rescue, they have never witnessed anything like this in all of their 16 years of rescuing.   They took 30 of the dogs.  If you want to help them, click here.

A Hazmat crew has boarded up the house.

That was a house of horrors! I never heard of a place that bad where that many dogs were living. Eating through the walls. Wow. I’m glad they didn’t kill each other for food or fight each other being cooped in the small garbage-filled home.

Geez, why wasn’t anything done sooner. They let those dogs suffer when they didn’t have to! God Bless their little souls.

Glad all the dogs are safe now. I bet they felt like brand new dogs when all of their fur was shaved off. Can you imagine having ppunds of caked fur on your body, not being able to move around well at all?

What the hell was wrong with animal control not getting those dogs earlier? You’d think they jump on that. The more I hear about some shelters, the madder I get. Some need new leaders and staff. They allowed these dogs to suffer even more. They should be fired!

I’m happy and proud to say that the cream colored dog pictured above has been adopted by a real special person. The dog will receive all the love and attention it deserves. It is a beautiful dog but lives in a world of fear. It will take a while but we will do all it takes to make the forget it’s horrible past and thrive in a loving home. All because of his new owner 🙂

Gary, thank you for letting me know the great news about this dog. He is now safe and receiving the TLC he so deserves. I hope the others find the same fate.

Again, thank you for the update!

No excuse. Sickening. These dogs could’ve been helped earlier. The animal control officers need to bear some guilt even though the person who did it is responsible the most. To do nothing when you know it’s happening is just as bad as doing this.
