ALDF’s lawsuit vs PA Dep’t of Agriculture- topic of this week’s tv show

A Lancaster County, PA puppy mill

A Lancaster County, PA puppy mill

Tune in Wednesday when Jessica Blome, Attorney for the (nonnrofit)  Animal Legal Defense Fund, will be my guest. Ms. Blome and I will be discussing the lawsuit the ALDF has filed against the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture over the weakened Puppy Mill Regulations.

In 2008, Pennsylvania General Assembly amended the Dog Law – Act 119 – which was supposed to strengthen standards of care for dogs housed in commercial kennels aka puppy mills.

A short two years later,  the Dep’t of Agriculture weakened the state’s mininum standards by creating regulatory exemptions for nursing mothers and their puppies.

I attended this meeting that was held in Harrisburg.  It was clear animal activists’ voices didn’t matter after they unanimously agreed to change (weaken) Act 119  by allowing nursing mothers and their puppies to be caged all day and still force them to live on wire flooring.

Was it legal for the Department of Agriculture to amend these changes? That is the question.

The Animal Legal Defense Fund’s lawsuit which was filed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is asking the court to order the Dep’t of Agriculture to follow the law and end the suffering of mother dogs and their puppies.

Pennsylvania confines more than 100,000 dogs in kennels.

The show starts at 6:30 PM (EST, live) on Ch. 15 (Comcast) Ch. 19(Service Electric).  Can’t see the show in  your area?  Streamline the show live over the internet by clicking on this link.

Puppy mills shouldn’t be overseen by the Dep’t of Ag. Dogs aren’t crops! Period!

I hope the ALDF is able to get this lawsuit moving swiftly. PA’s Dog Law has turned into a joke. Anyone who thinks puppy mills aren’t thriving in the Keystone state is seriously misinformed.

I couldn’t concur more with this statement, SB. Puppy mills went underground as a result of PA’s new Dog Law. Anyone who thinks they aren’t thriving in the country areas of PA’s is either mistaken or naive, especially those involved in this industry. They know but they won’t admit it. The abuse thrives. Who is looking out for them? Is there any way I can see this program?

I don’t see how they get away with breaking the law. Treating dogs like this is so cruel. It’s against the law and they don’t care!! Shame on the Department of Ag and the breeders!
