On the first Sunday during the month of June through August, Berks County is offering the chance for you to take your best furry friend on the trails of various parks.

You can learn the trails and experience nature with your dog. Including in the hikes will be natural and seasonal points of interest.

One dog per adult hiker. All dogs must be leashed.

These are considered medium difficulty hikes- approxmiately two miles.

June 1 st- Nolde Forest EE Center, 2910 New Holland Rd., Reading, PA 19607. You will meet at Mansion Parking Area. Contact number if interested is 610-796-3699

July 6th- Blue Marsh. Meet at the Silting Basin, 1268 Palisades Drive, Leesport, 19533.

August 8th- Muhlenberg Township- Jim Dietrich Park, 4899 Stoudt’s Ferry Bridge Rd., Reading, PA 19605. Meet at small pavillion near the red barn. Contact number is 610-929-4727 during regular hours.

Come out and enjoy nature with your dog this summer

Be sure to check your dogs for ticks after each hike. The deer tick is the carrier of lyme disease which is prevalent in Berks County. Make sure to check yourself as well. Lyme disease is a very serious disease but treatable if not caught too late. That’s why it’s so important to check your pets throughout the year.

Have fun!!

I have friends whose dogs died as a result of lyme disease. It’s so sad. I always check my dog all year round. I saw what it did to my friends’ dogs and their owners. So heartwrenching for both. I don’t want my dogs to go through that or me.

Everything is about taking your dogs to events. What about our feline friends?

My dog has lyme and I won’t subject her to the woods which are full of ticks. She’s had so many relapses. I can’t put her or me through it again. They should warn people like you are.
