Emaciated Dog Found in Trash Bag – Pennsylvania SPCA Needs Public’s Help To Identify Responsible Person(s)

November 26, 2016 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein 22 Comments

The Pennsylvania SPCA is asking the public to help identify the person (s) responsible for placing an emaciated dog in a trash bag and dumping her at Wissahickon Valley Park, Philadelphia.   The dog was found by Barbara Adams and her dog, Samson, while hiking on November 22nd.   Samson was fixated on the trash bag when Adams realized there was an abused pit bull inside of it.

The dog has been named Cranberry in light of the Thanksgiving holiday.   She is currently being held at the PSPCA Shelter Hospital while their team attempts to rehabilitate her back to health.   Cranberry is currently in guarded condition.

“In these cases, it’s the first 48 hours, first few days that are the most important to ensure that the animal survives,” said Nicole Wilson, Director of PSPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement. “Our goal is to make sure that not only does the animal survive but that we find who’s responsible for this horrific act of cruelty.”

The PSPCA is asking anyone with information leading to the individual(s) responsible for the dumping of Cranberry to call the organization’s cruelty hotline, (866) 601-7722. Tips can be left anonymously.

The PSPCA has set up a donation page to help Cranberry on her road to recovery: http://pspca.org/cranberry/

What sick piece of dirt does this? Since House Bill 869 wasn’t passed the a## who did this won’t be charged with a felony and could get the dog returned to them. Isn’t it great? I’m sending prayers for Cranberry to have a full recovery. Piece of dirt!

Not having HB 869 passed this year is indeed very sad but we must continue fighting. We have no other choice. We must get stiffer fines and jail time increased for animal abuse in Pennsylvania.

Regarding your question as to who would commit this act of animal cruelty- your guess is as good as mine. Hopefully, the person will be discovered through efforts of sharing this article and others so people can see Cranberry. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the culprit will be found. Thank you, Amelia.

Sadly this happens every day where someone hurts or abuses an animal. Humans are very cruel. There should be a test before you can become a parent, caretaker, or guardian to an animal. Too many animals suffer at the hands of abusers and it needs to stop. Since Pennsylvania didn’t pass hb 869 which would’ve given abusers stiffer penalties for animal abuse, they will continue to get a slap on the wrist. Good ole’ pa!

Cranberry will get a great home. Whenever a story like this makes the news, the animal always has many people wanting to adopt them. They will make sure she gets the right home so she never endures the hell she went through. I wish more people would realize there are animals waiting for homes in shelters every single day 24/7. They need homes as badly as Cranberry. If Cranberry makes it, she will find a good home. There are animals in shelters who are find physically but no one wants to adopt them. They’re just as important. Some will have trust issues too so they need good homes. Sadly, many won’t make it out alive. Millions of animals die every year while waiting for a home at a shelter. Cranberry will be a lucky dog in the end.

This is so true. It seems that people are interested in animals that make the news and don’t care to look inside the shelter’s Define the many Fantastic Pets that are available to them. They each have their own stories as well. Some have horrible backgrounds but they’re stored it make the news and they sit in a shelter waiting for a forever home. So I wish people would go into shelters because there are too many animals needing homes.

I also hope they catch the abuser who did this to you. God bless Barbara and Samson for finding and saving you. Someone wanted you to die in the worst way possible but it’s clearly not your time. Someone has to know who this dog is and who had her before he/she did this to you.

Any updates on Cranberry? What monster could do this to such a sweet dog. This is why I love animals more than people. Dogs are forgiving. Way more than forgiving than me!
