Ethics complaint to be filed against Senator Jim Inhofe (Oklahoma) for his pigeon shoot fundraiser held last year

Senator Jim Inhofe

A nearly year long investigation has uncovered possible Federal Ethics Violations, Tax Avoidance and Animal Cruelty by U.S. Senator James M. Inhofe (R -Oklahoma), 80,  after the Senator’s Pigeon-kill Fundraiser held September 5th, 2014 was caught on an undercover tape. On this tape, Inhofe can be seen shooting pigeons at point-blank-range. . According to SHARK (Showing Animals Respect and Kindness), who has been conducting the investigation,  Inhofe also broke Oklahoma criminal statutes with the fundraiser.

The pigeon shoot clearly shows men and women throwing pigeons into the air for others to shoot including Sen. Inhofe.  Some of the 1,000 pigeons had bands on them which means they belonged to someone.  A live mariachi band was hired to play in the background as the pigeons were shots, injured, maimed, and killed. Quite disgusting, in my opinion.

Due to the investigation unraveling these violations,, SHARK is filing documents with appropriate federal and state agencies with its main focus on an ethics complaint against the Senator filed in the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Ethics.

Captain Tony Woodruff of the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation’s law enforcement division stated last year, “Live pigeon shoots, while not common, are legal in Oklahoma on private property.”  “Pigeons are one of the animals that are not really protected by federal law since they’re non-migratory.  We’re pretty liberal on our laws. We let people do quite a bit here.”

IInhofe’s  campaign spokesman, Gregory Russell, “Rusty” Appleton,  said last year,  “We’re not apologizing for it,”   “The people opposed to these shoots are extreme animal rights activists who oppose rodeo and deer hunting.”  Appleton did go on record with The Oklahoman, “declining to tell the newspaper how much money was raised from the event, but did say the donations went to Inhofe’s re-election campaign and the Fund for a Conservative Future.”

Appleton can also be heard saying the dead pigeons were going to be collected and they were “feeding them to the indigent people in the City of Altus.
.Appleton also said pigeon shooting is “an old world hunting tradition” that goes back many generations.

The following is the complaint to be filed against Senator Jim Inhofe by SHARK
(You can also view the video of SHARK’s complaints against the Senator  here: : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o86sPTaZCbs)
1.  Sen. Inhofe, for his political fundraiser, used federally-owned land, federally-funded government employees as workers and solicited government employees for campaign donations.

2. SHARK said Sen. Inhofe may be guilty of breaking Oklahoma laws, including “Tax Avoidance,” for not paying sales tax on pigeons purchased from a Michael Daugherty, who has been involved in illegal cock fighting. Campaign filings list about $10,000 paid for pigeons in 2013 and 2014 fundraisers, but there is no mention of a sales tax. Daugherty and Sen. Inhofe may have engaged in a conspiracy to defraud the State of Oklahoma and its residents by deliberately not paying sales tax. http://sharkonline.org/images/handouts/salestaxcomplaint.pdf
3. SHARK also said Sen. Inhofe violated Oklahoma anti-cruelty laws – SHARK’s video shows pigeons, a protected species in Oklahoma, were willfully kicked, mutilated, shot, wounded, destroyed and tortured.

Senator Inhofe will be holding another pigeon shoot fundraiser on September 11th and 12th, 2015.  Stu Chaifetz, SHARK investigator who filmed last year’s pigeon shoot fundraiser,  said “Inhofe needs to be exposed and held accountable for all that he has done.”

“You have disgraced yourself by holding such a despicable event, and also dshonored your office because you used government land to raise political money, and you used government employees as servants to serve your donors. Shame on you, Senator Inhofe……for your corruption and your cruelty.”

What do you think should happen to Senator Jim Inhofe for his role in his pigeon shoot fundraiser?

Watching those pigeons thrown up in the air only to be killed or injured was more than I could take. Why would anyone participate in such a “sport”? It’s not a sport. It’s not hunting. It’s killing for the sake of killing. makes me so sick1

OOOOOOOOOOhhhhhhhhhh, they have special guests and live entertainment. So exciting while they kill birds who don’t have a snow ball’s chance in hell to get out of there alive. I did notice how many were injured and they were thrown back into the air. They’re lousy shots to have missed a bird that close. This makes them as stupid as they are participating in this cruel and senseless shoot. It’s not hunting. I wonder if they’ve watched themselves killing them. They look dowright stupid. Stupid is as stupid does…Forest Gump.

Are you freaking kidding me? I guess not. The video is sickening to watch. Why is seeing animals suffer fun to anyone? Something is wrong with the wiring of their brains to think it’s okay to throw an already injured bird into the air and shoot it again. Plus, they stole birds. I’m not against hunting but there is a right and wrong way to go about it. Hunting is done for the meat.

First of all, this isn’t hunting. This is thrill-seeking entertainment. Having mariachi music playing in the background while pigeons are being slaughtered shows how screwed up these people are. Allowing animals to suffer until their bodies give out is not what a true hunter does.

These are poor excuses for human beings. Let’s throw them in the air…….you get the idea.

Killing animals to make money. We live in a country where billions are spent on pets and we still have cave men and women violently killing birds for the sake of killing birds. There is no other reason for pigeon shoots. Is this Senator ashamed? Of course not. Part of this wonderful country don’t view animals as others do. I’m a meat eater but this constitutes animal cruelty. I hate people at times. NO way around it. How does the saying go: The more I know people the more I love my pet. It’s true.
