Is Mikel Long, Police Officer who Dumped his Pit Bull (Cranberry) in Park to Die, Making a Plea Deal?

facebook.com/mikel long Is this how Long feels about his animal cruelty case? It can be found on his facebook page

Yesterday, Mikel Long, a Philadelphia Police Officer, had a hearing in a Philadelphia Court to face charges of animal cruelty after allegedly placing his dog in a garbage bag and leaving her to die in Wissahickon Park last November.   The pit bull now named Cranberry was emaciated, scared and unable to walk when found by a local hiker and her dog on Thanksgiving day 2016.

At yesterday’s hearing,  Long’s lawyers demanded a jury trial for his case.   This means he waived his preliminary hearing because he and his lawyers feel there is sufficient evidence to prove he did not commit all of the animal cruelty charges filed against him in a court of law.

The next phase Long’s was a Formal Arraignment to have been held on May 25th.

According to court records and as of today, May 12th, Long’s Formal Arraignment has been canceled with a Common Pleas Case Created.

One plausible reason the May 25th date has been canceled is that Long’s lawyers may be working out a deal with the Assistant District Attorney, Jordon Howell, who is trying this case.   Or it could be as simple as a scheduling conflict.

We will have to wait and see what happens next in this troubling case of a 11 yr. veteran of the Philadelphia Police allegedly purposely leaving his dog to die in the woods.    It is not certain if Long is still employed by the Dep’t.  He was given a 30 day suspension with the intent of firing him but nothing has been said.   His 30 day suspension is done.

The case of Cranberry who was found Thanksgiving morning 2016 by Barbara Adams and her dog is not over.

Cranberry is very happy and relaxed in her new home with Jimmy Huntley as the photos clearly show.

He’s making a plea deal. Why else would his arraignment be canceled right after his court appearance. This is how the lawyers work it out. He avoids jail time but probably lose his job. Love his profile pic. So classy especially in light of what he’s been charged with.

His actions make no sense. He had another pit bull that he kept and took care of but Cranberry he obviously didn’t feed and dumped her wishing her to die. Something not right with his brain.

and he was a cop. I’ve supported our police officers in light of what’s happening to them in this country. I can’t defend the actions of this man. Sicko whack job. Karma, baby.

Classy fb image. Shows who he really is. I can’t find anything about him being fired. I hope the Philadelphia police are standing by their word and getting rid of him.

What a smug SOB. Why wouldn’t a policeman know better than to be involved in such a cruel act? He knows right from wrong. Maybe he doesn’t.
