Antoine Talley, Lawndale, PA, who pled guilty to 15 counts of animal cruelty was sentenced to four years of reporting probation, anger management, drug screening and prohibition of ownership of and contact with dogs during the probationary period. Antoine Talley, 39, was also sentenced to pay more than $3500 in restitution to the PSPCA for his role in a brutal dog fighting operation in the 300 block of Van Kirk Street on May 11, 2013.
Five dogs including four males and one female pit bull type dogs were rescued on Saturday, May 11, 2013 from the 300 block of a Van Kirk Street property . One dog was in emaciated condition. All five dogs had scarring and injuries consistent with dog fighting. A dog fighting ring and other paraphernalia associated with dog fighting were found on the premises. Talley was arrested at the scene on May 11th.
Talley was charged with five felony counts of animal cruelty, five misdemeanor counts in the first degree, and five summary counts. He was also charged with a felony offense for attending a dog fight in 2000 in which he was sentenced to three years of probation in addition to his current case.
All dogs were surrendered with two finding homes. Three dogs were euthanized due to medical and/or behavioral issues.
“Animal fighting is not only a brutal crime, but a crime that is time-consuming and expensive to prosecute,” said Jerry Buckley, CEO of the Pennsylvania SPCA. “The PSPCA is one of the only organizations continuing to do this work, and as is evidenced by this case, the length of time from arrest to conviction can take years. We hope that Talley can be an example of the necessity for speedier sentencing and ultimately harsher penalties for such severe cases of cruelty. ”

I had to read this twice. That really sends a message to this man. Abuse dogs and get probation. Anger management? He needs to be put in jail. What’s wrong with our justice system?
Roselyn, there is something very wrong with our judicial system. Most animal abusers only get probation or a slap on the wrist. What this person did calls for jail time. His second offense and probation plus the ridiculous sentence of anger management. That is a joke. The judicial system needs to take animal abuse much more seriously. This sends a message to the abusers that nothing bad will happen to them even when they are so brutally cruel toward them.
This would be funny if not so serious. When will the sentence match the crime of animal abuse? A slap on the wrist. Never changes.

What is wrong with our judicial system? People think because animal cruelty is considered a felony in all 50 states, that the abusers will finally get the right punishment. It doesn’t mean jack $#@%! I knew this and try to tell others. They don’t get it.
Makes no sense. What about animal cruelty being a felony? I knew it meant nothing and here we have the proof. He should be in jail.
The public’s perception of animal abuse being a felony in all 50 states is that people will go to jail for their crimes. Not so. It doesn’t mean much of anything. Until animal cruelty is treated like a heinous crime it is, most abusers will be treated the same way. After decades, nothing much has changed in regards to animal abuse and jail time. Pathetic.
