Pets Remember YOU even After 10 Years!

October 21, 2015 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein 5 Comments

Despite this video being two years old, I feel it’s worth reminding people that pets don’t forget you.

In this video (2013), a man’s dog had died and he had no desire to have another dog.  One thing led to another and he found himself on the website of the Humane Society of Greater Nashua.

When Jamie Carpentier saw the image of a 13 year old Basset hound named Ginger, he couldn’t believe it might be “his Ginger” from 10 years earlier.  He called the shelter to ask for a picture of the dog to be emailed to him.   The image he was given compared to the 10 year old photos he had of his former dog, Ginger, were one in the same.

Divorce, adoption and surrendering Ginger have led her back to her first owner.  And she remembered his voice and face!!  Carpentier had said goodbye to Ginger when he got a divorce.  The ex-wife surrendered her to a shelter in 2003 and Ginger was adopted by an elderly couple.  They could no longer care for her and gave her back to the shelter.

Something to think about if you’re thinking about relinquishing your pet to a shelter. Ginger and Jamie have a second chance. Most aren’t so lucky.  Pets remember YOU!

It’s heartbreaking to see when people surrender their animals. The dogs have on idea why they’re being dumped. They have no idea why their owners aren’t coming back. They have no idea what their new lives (if they’re given the chance) will be like in a brand new home. Pets can’t talk. If you’re going to have a pet, keep one for his/her entire lifetime!!!! It’s no fair to leave or dump them unless you’ve given them a bad life.

I often tell friends this and they don’t believe me. It is true. I couldn’t give up my pet no matter what. I could never betray them.

They don’t forget! Wish more people would recognize this fact. They give unconditional love and ask for your love only in return.
