A cockfighting ring at a Berks County farm has been busted. The PSCPA is on scene as Humane Law Enforcement officers are rescuing 50-60 birds, one live goat, one deceased goat, a horse, and four dogs based on animal cruelty violations, according to the press release I received.
There is evidence of cockfighting, unsanitary confinement, failure to provide veterinary care, and failure to provide adequate sustenance.
One person has been arrested but the PSCPA is not releasing the name at this time.
The PSPCA received a tip about a cockfighting ring this morning. A search warrant was executed. They found hundreds of animals in housed in different buildings on the farm property.
The officers discovered a cockfighting ring and cockfighting paraphernalia. “Cockfighting, or fighting roosters, is a brutal crime,” said Director of Humane Law Enforcement George Bengal. “It’s a felony and we intend to hold those involved accountable.”
The animals will be evaluated by the PSPCA’s forensic veterinary team at their Erie Avenue headquarters.
“Animal cruelty knows no boundaries. The issues we see in the Philadelphia area are also present in other parts of the states, such as Berks,” said CEO Jerry Buckley. “We expanded our Humane Law Enforcement coverage to Berks County earlier this year to investigate and prosecute these kinds of cases.”
Disgusting. Dead animal. Cockfighting. Why do they have so many animals? PA needs stronger laws and enforced.
Berks County is as bad as Lancaster County and Philly in terms of animal abuse cases on a larger scale. We live in an area where there is little regard for animals lives. We live like rednecks and treat animals the same way. I hate this area more and more!
Put them in jail and throw away the key! Tired of them getting off so easy. The anals pay a price. Sometimes, the ultimate price. Why should the people who do this to them not get a similar treaent?
