SHARK holding Protests against Live Pigeon Shoots this Friday, August 1st – Sunday, August 3rd

July 29, 2014 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein 10 Comments

This Friday, August 1st, is the beginning of a massive three-day long live pigeon shoot at Winge Pointe Hunting Resort, located in Shoemakersville, Berks County, PA.  (You can click on Winge Pointe directions.)

From August 1-4, emaciated and dehydrated birds that have been shipped by trucks for hundreds of miles will be launched out of small boxes and shot. Many of them will be wounded and will suffer from hours of pain to days due to their injuries, exposure, predation, hunger or thirst. Most will die a horrific death.

HB 1750 which would’ve ended live pigeon shoots in PA was approved in the PA Senate Judiciary Committe June 26, 2014. The session ended with nothing more happening to the bill.

SHARK ( Showing Animals Respect and Kindness) will be holding protests on Friday, August 1st,  Saturday, August 2nd, and Sunday, August 3rd at Winge Pointe Hunting Resort.

The purpose of these protests is to expose the mass slaughter of pigeons for fun.

Stuart Chaifetz, Investigator for SHARK, told me people may show up at the front of the entrance of Winge Pointe each day after 1 PM. SHARK will supply signs for people to hold in protest.

Stu said if anyone would like more information, feel free to contact him at StuartChaifetz@gmail.com.

Let’s show Winge Pointe we are tired of the maiming and slaughtering of thousands of pigeons for no good reason.

I believe in the cause but don’t like the way this group harrasses people.

How does this place exist? Who wants to “hunt” birds this way?

These places exist because they’re legal and shooters love killing for the fun of it. They bet money and make money. Sick, isn’t it?

Pigeon shoots are cruel and barbaric. Why would anyone want to participate in this type of shoot? sounds like only brain dead people we do this.

I can only imagine how many birds were killed or suffered while dying.

These shoots are archaic and so are the people who host them. So are the participants.
