Tim Zimmermann, Associate Producer/Writer for Blackfish, will be my TV Guest April 5th @ 7PM

April 2, 2016 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein 15 Comments

Tim Zimmermann,  Associate Producer and Co-Writer for the documentary, Blackfish, and author of The Killer in the Pool will be my television guest this Tuesday, April 5th at 7PM.

SeaWorld made recent headline news when they announced the cessation of their captive orca breeding program effective immediately.  This news came on the heels of Tilikum’s grave health condition.  He is suffering with a terminal lung infection.

Blackfish delves into the death of former SeaWorld trainer, Dawn Brancheau who was killed by Tilikum.  It explores the consequences of keeping Tilikum and other orcas in captivity.  Tilikum has been involved in the deaths of three people since he was captured 35 years ago.  Blackfish is seen as the impetus for ending SeaWorld’s breeding program.

Tim Zimmerman is a Correspondent for Outsidemagazine, Associate Producer and a former Senior Editor and Diplomatic Correspondent for US News & World Report.

Showtime is 7 PM (live) on Ch. 15 (Comcast) Ch. 21 (Service Electric). The program airs in Pennsylvania.  Can’t see the show in  your area?  Streamline the show live over the internet by clicking on this link.

Blackfish used former SW trainers who weren’t part of the organization for a long time. Some had been fired and had a beef while others thought the direction of the documentary was going another way. When they saw the finished film, they denounced it

SeaWorld blamed Dawn Brancheau for her own death. They allowed trainers to be close to the killer whales in the first place. They should be ashamed of themselves.

SeaWorld is greedy and never should’ve captured orcas. It was cruel to do it. All for money.

I’m so ashamed that I went to the Shamu show. I didn’t know how abusive it was to keep them in captivity. I won’t ever go again. They made billions off of these marine mammals while they live miserable lives in tin pools.

I’ll be watching the show! I never watched Blackfish but have seen excerpts and I know they exposed SeaWorld for the money-hungry uncaring people they are. I’m so glad they exposed the truth.

Does Mr. Zimmermann believe the orcas will be sent to sea sanctuaries?

SeaWorld says Blackfish wasn’t the reason for its decision to end their breeding program. Instead it was the decision from California legislature that forbid them from captive breeding in in that state. SeaWorld has a breeding program in their San Diego park. I don’t believe them. If it wasn’t for the film, CA wouldn’t have gotten involved. BF brought this to light. SeaWorld denies, denies, denies. I can’t believe they partnered with the HSUS either. It’s a PR stunt.

The Killer in the pool gives a detailed account of orcas in captivity. A must read to understand how SeaWorld has hurt these marine mammals.

Tilikum has lead a depraved and deprived life. Orcas don’t belong in captivity. It’s a no-brainer.

Zimmerman has done extensive research on Brancheau’s death. I’m curious what he has to say.
