TV Show- Wednesday, February 27th/6:30 PM- The end of live pigeon shoots in PA?/Iconic species of animals on brink of extinction

February 25, 2013 by Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein 25 Comments

Join me this Wednesday evening as my guest, Stuart Chaifetz of SHARK and I address a new bill, SB 510, which has been introduced and co-sponsored by Senator Patrick Browne to ban live pigeon and fowl shoots in PA. PA is the last state in the nation to openly hold such shoots.

Stuart and I will talk about SHARK’s role in ending these barbaric and cruel shoots. SHARK has been on the front lines to witness what most of us don’t see.

Also taking part during the second half of my show will be Adam Roberts, Executive Vice-President of Born Free USA. Roberts is attending a conference in Bangkok, Thailand where Born Free will be urging 177 Member Countries to urgently put in place effective measures to prevent further loss of several key-stone species. According to Roberts, “We are witnessing the decimation of some of the world’s most beautiful creatures.”

According to the CITES Secretariat, they estimate that 25,000 elephants were poached in 2012. Others, including Born Free, suggest that total may be more than 30,000 in the last 12 months. Either way you dissect the figures, the number is astronomical and needs to stop.

Adam, who will be calling from Bangkok, and I will be discussing what can be done to to save these endangered species from poaching and slaughter that has been linked to international organized crime syndicates.

A must-see show. I hope you will join my guests and me on the 27th at 6:30 PM. You can view the show live on the internet by clicking on this link.

Hi. I discovered your blog using msn. I hope to be able to tune in to see this show. Sure would like to know how the endganered animals of the world can be helped. It’s an atrocity that animals are poached for their tusks, etc.

The poaching of animals is serious business. Making money by killing animals for their parts is horrendous. Why do people destroy animals in any way imaginable to make money. Whether it’s puppy mills or poaching, the animals pay the ultimate sacrifice. When will it end?

I have a question for SHARK. Does the NRA put pressure on them to stop their fight against pigeon shoots?

Poaching is horrible. Killing wildlife and using certain body parts for whatever stupid reason is maddening! Please stop this. Good luck, Born Free!

It will be interesting to see if SB 510 will go through with pressure from the NRA to make sure it doesn’t pass. They did it before. Will they succeed again?

I browsed a few of the remarks here TV Show- Wednesday, February 27th/6:30

I do have a couple of questions for you if it’s okay. Where is SB 510? Are there any pigeon shoots happening at Winge Pointe in the near future? Will SHARK be there?

    Thank you.

You can see the replays of this show at bctv.org. Click on archives. Or you can see it in SE PA at the following times:
      Friday 9:30 PM
      Saturday 5:30 PM
      Sunday 8:30 AM

To answer the question about SHARK and the NRA- SHARK has been talking to members of the NRA to educate them on live pigeon shoots. All of the members don’ t share the same philosophy the NRA holds regarding live pigeon shoots. Stuart, my guest, said on my show.

Thank you for commenting. Appreciate it.

Cool show!! Wish your guests could have spoken more on the topics. Please have them back. Very interesting show and it went by so fast. Can’t believe you had a guest calling from Thailand! That has to be a first for that station. Have these people back on your show!

You def needed more time for each guest. Seems everything is about making money off of animals. Whether it’s puppy mills, pigeon shoots, poaching, whatever. The reason for these horrendou acts is to make money from these innocent animals and for people to become rich. As was said on your show, the illegal trade through organized crime puts these animals in the throws of extinction. Sure hope this conference where your guest was calling from in Thailand, will come up and implement ideas to turn this around.

Next time, please give them more time. They were very interesting and would like to hear more from them.

Caught some of your show last night. I heard Stuart of SHARK say educating NRA members is what’s needed to help them understand what the NRA is fighting. I think that’s a great idea. I’m not a SHARK fan but as a hunter who wrote on another post before this one, I don’t like how the NRA (I’m a member) is in favor of live pigeon shoots. I don’t want to be included as a NRA member to say I’m in favor of these shoots. I’m a proud member of the NRA but not proud with this issue. I think what SHARK is doing is fair and I commend them for what they’re doing. I hope the NRA backs down and see how wrong live pigeon shoots are. Many of us hunters are against them.

I hate what these evil people do to elephants, lions, sharks, rhinos and so many more. Kill them in a cruel way to take body parts to make money. I hope they get what they deserve in the end! I could wring their necks!!!

Let’s end pigeon shoots. Sen. Afflerbach was the first legislator to introduce a bill to end live pigeon shoots and that’s over 20 yrs. ago! What’s wrong with our politicians??????? I am flabbergasted and beyond dismayed over this. These shoots must end. The NRA is blocking it because it’s a big lobby group and they pay off lawmakers to allow them to continue.
