If you haven’t heard the latest goosip, you must not be into entertainment news but the world is a buzz over George and Amal Clooney’s “adoption” of a former, hoarder terrier dog, Nate. But, the gossip doesn’t end there. Mr. George Clooney then secretly had his assistant call LuvFurMutts and arrange to have Nate adopted for his parents and to have Nate delivered on Christmas Eve to Clooney’s parents, Nina and Nick. All are pictured in above photo.
Clooney is being hailed as a hero. “He’s the greatest!” “Another reason to fall in love with George.” Blah, blah, blah…..
On LuvfurMutt’s facebook page, they state “Nate the Terrier came to LuvFurMutts from a hoarding case of 22 dogs; we took 11 of them. He was born with birth defects. A barrel chest, a leg that swayed. He walked like a Hyena. Some of these dogs where fat, but not our Nate. You could count the ribs on him. When we took Nate to adoption events, people would stare and kids would point. Several people applied to adopt him but then said no when they met him. He was with us 9 months. The lowest point came when an adopter cried when she met him and said she would be depressed the rest of her life if she had to look at him every day. Why could they not see what we saw in him?”
Little did they know that George was watching Youtube videos of Nate and felt he would be perfect for his parents since they recently lost their dog of ten years.
There are no doubts Nate has found a great and forever home with the Clooney’s and will have a fantastic life.
My problem lies with the fact that Nate was allowed to be adopted by George but in his parents’ names, and be delivered to his Clooney’s parents on Christmas Eve. The parents never met Nate prior to the adoption.
Would You or I be allowed to do this if we asked an animal rescue or shelter? I think NOT!
If you are looking to adopt, there are strict policies in place forbidding anyone to adopt for someone else at almost all shelters and/or rescues. Animal rescues are notorious for having stringent policies in place making it difficult for people to adopt in the first place. Shelters and rescues demand that you return a pet if you no longer want the pet. Remember Ellen DeGeneres’s debacle in 2007 when she adopted a dog but gave the dog to her hair stylist after realizing the fit wasn’t a good one in her home. The rescue found out and demanded the return of the dog, Iggy. Iggy was adopted by another family.
Shelters and rescues seem to hold the rights to whom is allowed to have a pet and who isn’t. Why was George allowed to decide where Nate goes and why did this rescue allow it? Because he’s George Clooney or the fact he gave a substantial donation to this rescue?
While I’ll always commend anyone adopting a pet over buying a pet any day, I don’t see why certain rules apply to certain people. Wink-wink- George Clooney.
For the record, I have nothing against Clooney. I’m glad he and his wife are parents of two adopted dogs!

Leave my George alone! He did a good thing!
Look at that face. I mean Nate, not George. Not a Clooney fan. I would’ve adopted Nate in a heartbeat. I go for the dogs who have issues. There are many other special people who would also have adopted Nate.
I don’t think it’s fair that a rescue would do this for George and not others but we’re not celebrities in the limelight. They’ve gotten their chance to be in the news all over the internet. What better advertising than this? They weren’t going to turn down him. No rescue would’ve. It’s not right but that is the way of the world.
I love George Clooney even more after doing this. What a sweetie.
People who adopt on a regular basis are my heroes. The people who work in shelters are my heroes. The people who clean up poop are my heroes. The people who rescue animals are my heroes. The people who work on legislation are my heroes. The people who work tirelessly for animals are my heroes. George is hardly a hero but at least he and his wife have adopted dogs. That makes the two of them good people.
I’ve heard enough of Clooney and how wonderful he is. Who cares? Not me. That’s for damn sure.
